One typical day

 One typical day in Thessaloniki includes a walk in the down town and a cup of coffee with friends.

The Red House

 We are still at the same spot, at Agia Sofia's square, watching The Red House, a historical building which the urban legend want it to be haunted or just a jonah.

 The sign says ''cafe Hermes'', the name of the old cafe that used to work at the ground floor in the early 20th century.

Rainy prayers

I guess when it's rainy in Thessaloniki the weather is worse than London...
Rainy these days go by and the winter is close colder and sadder than ever.

Tomorrow is a big national day for the town and the whole country, the day when the Greek resistance against the fascism began. This is the Agia Sofia's square, a historical square where thousand of our citizens executed by the Nazis during the war II.

I can't explain this, but each year, at this day weather is always rainy.

The monument that you see is a medieval byzantine church dedicated to the wisdom of God. That's why is called Agia Sofia. Agia goes for the word ''holy'' and Sofia for the word ''wisdom''.

The two small arcs at the both sides of the entrance (in the 4th image) are called chapels and people always have the habit to light a small candle there. This happens to every church.

at the flower market

Just a small alley at Komninon street, with flower stores and small cafes, where you can sit and have a cup of coffee watching the people passing by.

A day trip to the suburbs

Thessaloniki is built along the sea. Today i will show you a small and quiet suburb only few kilometers outside the city which is called Peraia. Warm and clean water, fresh fishes, long cycling lane, and cozy leisure facilities.

at the new coast # 1

 The new coast belongs to the east part of the city and it offers a long distance walk and a variety of parks to visit.

At the campus #1

 Campus establishments are placed inside the historic center of Thessaloniki at the part of the city were the jewish and muslim cemeteries used to be. Here are some interesting buildings.

Museum of Byzantine Culture #1

At the East part of the historical center of Thessaloniki, only few meters away from the coast you will find the most beautiful museum of the city. The Museum of Byzantine Culture. A building that presents all the grace of monastery architecture through modern design and materials. Visiting the museum you will have the chance to learn more things not only about Thessaloniki but about the medieval history of the whole eastern Europe as well.
